For months we've urged
the Governor to support the Global Warming
Solutions Act of 2008.
And on Feb. 19 the
Governor said YES! He supports the bill and is
now putting his full weight behind it:
GOVERNORS PRESS RELEASE
On Thursday, January
17th, hundreds of activists gathered in
Annapolis chanting and waving banners in support
of the Maryland Global Warming Solutions Act.
Below is a short 2-minute video from the rally.
About Us
In 2006, the Healthy Air Coalition passed the Healthy Air Act, which requires power plants to significantly reduce air pollution emissions. Later that year, the same coalition followed that success with the successful push of the Clean Cars Act, a bill that requires new cars sold in Maryland to meet more effective emissions standards.
The coalition has now turned its full attention to the pursuit of combating global warming. To that end, we have changed our name to the Alliance for Global Warming Solutions. There are three levels of involvement in the alliance: Sign on letter, active member that attends alliance meetings, and a voting member of the steering committee.
Why Maryland
Should Play a Leading Role
With 3,100 miles of coastline, Maryland
will be drastically affected by rising sea levels. The
U.S. EPA predicts that Maryland waters will rise at a
higher rate than many other places in the United States.
Vital economic, living, and tourism centers, such as the
Inner Harbor in Baltimore, will be irreparably damaged
by an estimated three-foot rise in water levels. Global
warming also causes severe weather, increased spread of
infectious disease, and worsened air pollution due to
higher temperatures
Maryland ’s
proximity to Washington D.C. decision makers and a
wealth of scientific and technological talent, we have
the potential to become a national leader in the debates
around global warming.
We hope that your group will join us and add your organization’s name to the growing list of Marylanders who demand that global warming be addressed.
